  • SATSANGA PARIWAR, Jawalkhel Basi (guest) wrote 16 years ago:
Back in the early 70's this place was a public toilet specially for Tibetian Refugees of that time who had no other place to go. No one wanted to pass by this area unless one needed to use it as an open toilet. I had to pass by this route everyday going to school and I remember running across the “sisno jhadi” closing my nose while holding my breath until I reach either side of this smelly area. By the end of late 70's, two local residents B.G. Risal and (late) H.P. Poudel took this matter personally and started to clean the area with the help of local youths from Jawalakhel Youth Club. But after few days of cleaning, people still didn’t stop the habbit that they were already used to with to litter public land. That process kept on going for a while until the two far sighted individuals came up with an idea to turn that place into a local temple. Local residents agreed with the great idea and people started to donate to build a temple. Once they had enough fund to build a temple more local people joined the two individuals to form committee. That committee later decided to build a place to do daily “pooja” and “satsanga” where anyone could gather for some time in the morning and evening in the name of God. Now after almost 30 years the place has gained a national recognition as a best place for Satsanga as well as a place to perform other Hindu ceremonies and activities.
